Here I Am | blog

Exodus 3:2
The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight and see why the bush is not burned up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
“Here I Am”
Moses saw a bush that is both on fire, and not burning up. It made him look. It made him wonder. He took the time to stop and see. The bush made Moses leave the path he was on, and that ended up making all the difference in his life. When God called out to him, he responded “Here I am.”
I wonder, would I have noticed? Would I have come close enough to see? Or would I have run in the other direction from fear of the unknown. Maybe I would have missed it, because I wouldn’t have even looked up from the path I was already on.
Today – I want to open my eyes wider, and listen better to notice where God is at work in the world, so that I can join in.
Prayer: Lord, Help me not to miss the moments. Help me to stop, to see, to listen to your call to me. Help us all to listen to your voice. Amen
Reflection Questions:
- What makes you turn aside from the path you are expecting to take?
- What gets your attention, and lets you know something has happened that might just require a response from you?
- If you can, take a walk, or a drive today, and see what catches your eye.
