Psalm 23: 2-3a

Soul Restoration

The Lord makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;[a]
    he restores my soul.

What restores your soul? I mean when you really, really need to be filled up, what helps?

The green pastures, the still waters of these verses bring images to mind, and those memories, those times and places do help me to slow down, and make space for God to fill me up again.

Sometimes, what restores my soul, is taking time for those memories to surface.  For me, that can happen when I write, that can happen when I pray, that can happen when I drink a cup of coffee and don’t do anything else at the same time.  Sometimes, what restores my soul is a conversation with a friend, who reminds me of God’s love for me and all of us.

I hope you are feeling filled up today.  If you aren’t – I hope you make time for God to fill your cup, with a green pasture, a view of still waters, whatever you need to find your soul restored in the love of God.

Prayer: Thank you God for all the ways you help me to experience the filling of my soul. In Jesus Name, Amen

Reflection Questions:

  1. Does your soul need restoring today? Can you make space to let God fill you up?
  2. Do you have memories of still waters and/or green pastures where you felt at peace?
  3. Is there someone in your life who you feel helps you when you are empty?  Take a moment to give thanks for their present in your life.
