Ash Wednesday

Joel 2:1 Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming, it is near-

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.

Ash Wednesday

The Trumpets are blowing! What do they sound like? They sound like people who are hungry not having food. They sound like justice and righteousness for all people being trampled. They sound like a woman who spent her life caring for others being denied the care she needs now. The Trumpets are blowing.

These times are not easy. They call forth something in us. And what that something is may not be clear. But today, as we begin the season of Lent that leads to the celebration of the Resurrection, we can respond to the blowing trumpets by opening our hearts to ask God to help us reconnect with the new and right spirit that can fill us up and show us how to go forward. We can pray for our own ability to say yes to God and walk a path that leads us and others to the possibility of new life.

Prayer: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. In Jesus Name, Amen
