What’s Next?
Isaiah 43:19
I am about to do a new thing;
now it springs forth; do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.
What’s Next?
As I write this meditation, I don’t know what the results of Tuesday’s election will be. My guess is, even when you read it on Wednesday morning – there may not yet be clarity. So what do we know? What is next?
What we do know is that no matter the results and how we perceive them – our strength, our help, our peace comes from paying attention to the new thing that God is doing. Within us, among us, through us there is a way forward that God is walking with us. There is a path through the wilderness, and there is the sustenance we need in the desert.
Finding a way forward is likely to be lined with new questions, and new challenges. We will need to pay attention to what God is doing and wants to do through us. In this very moment, we can notice opportunities to be agents of love and compassion, to be a safe place to rest for those who are in danger of falling first. We can be wings to shelter under, and maybe even fly on for those who need to be lifted up. That’s what’s next – no matter what happens on any one day.
Reflection Questions:
1) In the midst of this day – what work of God can you join in doing?
2) Think about what brings you peace of mind when there is chaos, and do it if you can, or spend some time journaling about when you’ve done it in the past.
3) What can you say yes to today?
Prayer: Dear God, In this challenging time, we need to be able to see and hear the new things you are inviting us to be and do together. Help us notice our opportunities to be instruments of peace and love in the world. In Jesus Name, Amen
