“Healing”

O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
    and you have healed me.

Psalm 30:2

Healing

“I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.”  Sometimes those words ring true – we pray, we ask, we cry out, and healing happens for us or the person we prayed for.  Sometimes – we pray, we cry out, and we don’t see anything happening.  And in those moments, we feel everything from frustration, to grief, to fear. Did I not do it right?  Were my words too formulaic? Why did healing not come from the Lord to answer my prayers?
In my experience, there are a lot of unanswered questions on our faith journey, and many of them have to do with this exact topic. When I get a moment away from my original thoughts and prayers, I begin to look again, and wonder if there might have been healing in a way I hadn’t prayed for.

Sometimes, relationships heal, or peace comes to meet us when we were least expecting it. Or the Doctor who could tell us the truth we needed to hear was available when they hadn’t been before.  Or we met someone on our journey who blessed our lives in ways we are grateful for, even when the journey wasn't one we ever wanted to take. Somehow, someway, we knew that we were not alone, that God was with us in the middle of the pain.

“O Lord – I cried to you for help and you healed me.”  May we make space for healing even in ways we can’t yet imagine.

Reflection Questions:

What healing are you praying for today?

Have you ever witnessed healing happen in your world?

How might healing happen unexpectedly in your life?

Prayer: Dear God, Help me to open myself to the possibility of healing. In Jesus Name, Amen
