Says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jeremiah 31:33b

Written On Our Hearts

I was walking on the beach one day when I saw the words I Love You written on the sand. They were written big and clear and facing the hotel balcony, so that someone within would see them when they woke. At first I imagined the person who might know that the words were for them, the honeymooner perhaps, or the person on their 25th anniversary trip. But then, I started to hope that maybe these words could be read by anyone and everyone as belonging to them.

What if the law that is implanted in us is a law of love, where we reflect the love with which God first loves us to everyone we meet along the way? Today, we can choose to believe that God is writing on our hearts the words I Love You. And that could make all the difference.

Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for the love you plant in each of us. Help us to see it and do our best to spread it throughout our world. In Jesus Name, Amen

Reflection Questions:

  1. Write I Love You on a piece of paper and put it somewhere you might see it throughout the day. What do you experience when you read those words from God?
  2. How might you reflect God’s love today to someone you meet along the way?
  3. How might you reflect God’s love today to someone you know well?
