So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Acts 1:6

Are We There Yet?

I forgot this part of the story. I forgot that even after Easter, the disciples were still thinking the point of all that they had gone through was about Jesus taking over, bringing power back to the kingdom. But it was never about earthly power and kingdom battles for Jesus. He said no to all the rules of power in his society, and tried to help people understand that the Spirit of God wasn’t bound by anything.

Do we understand that? Do we understand that wherever we are – right here and right now – we are enough? We don’t have to wait to be perfect to be instruments of love and peace in the world. We have the power of the love of God and the grace of Jesus and the peace of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to wait to get somewhere else – we are here now!

Prayer: Dear God, Help me find my way to believing the power of your spirit gives me everything I need! In Jesus Name, Amen

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are you waiting for? What can you do in the midst of the waiting?
  2. What part of the Easter story do you want to live out today?
  3. What does resurrection mean in your life? Where do you need to know that what looks like the end isn’t really the end?
